We are Erik & Cathelijn — a Dutch couple in our mid-thirties who fell for a forgotten stone farmhouse on a hilltop in Montelovesco, high above the valleys between Gubbio and Umbertide. What we found was a ruin with a view. What we made of it is Casale di Monteluce.Wij zijn Erik & Cathelijn — een Nederlands stel van midden dertig dat viel voor een vergeten stenen boerderij op een heuveltop in Montelovesco, hoog boven de valleien tussen Gubbio en Umbertide. Wat we vonden was een ruïne met uitzicht. Wat we ervan maakten is Casale di Monteluce.Siamo Erik & Cathelijn — una coppia olandese sulla trentina che si è innamorata di un casale in pietra dimenticato su una collina di Montelovesco, alto sopra le valli tra Gubbio e Umbertide. Quello che abbiamo trovato era un rudere con vista. Quello che ne abbiamo fatto è il Casale di Monteluce.
We rebuilt it the slow way: stone from the surrounding hills, hand-laid cotto floors, chestnut window frames, lime-washed walls. Minimalist where it can be, warm where it matters. No clutter — just space, light, and ten hectares of olive trees, woodland and silence.We herbouwden het op de langzame manier: steen uit de omliggende heuvels, handgelegde cotto-vloeren, kastanjehouten kozijnen, muren in kalkpleister. Minimalistisch waar het kan, warm waar het telt. Geen overbodigheden — alleen ruimte, licht, en tien hectare olijfbomen, bos en stilte.L'abbiamo ricostruito con lentezza: pietra delle colline circostanti, pavimenti in cotto posati a mano, infissi in castagno, pareti a calce. Minimalista dove può esserlo, caldo dove conta. Niente di superfluo — solo spazio, luce, e dieci ettari di ulivi, bosco e silenzio.
